PONA was formally recognized in 1993 during the term of Dr. Antonio Villalon as President of the Philippine Society of Oncologists. The organization, which is non-profit, non-political, and non-sectarian, is composed of nurses involved and interested in the care of clients with cancer. From an initial group of nine founding members, PONA now boasts about 900 members, with approximately 350 active members.
