Scholarships and Financial Aid

At UP College of Nursing and through the generous donations of our alumni and benefactors, we are able to offer various scholarships and financial aid to our undergraduate and graduate students. 

I. Undergraduate Scholarships

Amount of Scholarship:  Php 10,000/semester

Application Requirements     

    • Must be of Sophomore standing
    • A regular full time student of the UPCN and currently taking required PE/NSTP courses if these have not yet been taken
    • Have a GWA of 2.0 or better for the preceding semester (without any incomplete or failing grade)
    • Active participant in class/student council/campus activity

Requirements for Renewal

    • Letter for renewal addressed to the Dean through Scholarship Committee Chair
    • TCG, without any incomplete and failures
    • Must carry a normal load
    • Certificate of payment (F5)

Amount of Scholarship: Php 10,000/semester

Application Requirements:     

    • Must be of Sophomore standing

Application Requirements:

    • Have a GWA of 2.4 or better for the preceding semester (without any incomplete or failing grade)
    • Carry the normal load prescribed by the degree program

Requirements for Renewal:

    • Letter for renewal addressed to the Dean through Scholarship Committee Chair
    • TCG, without any incomplete and failures
    • Must carry a normal load
    • Certificate of payment (F5)

Amount of Scholarship: USD 500/year

Application Requirements:     

    • Must be of sophomore standing.
    • Regular full time student of the UPCN (without any Incomplete and failing grade) and currently taking required PE/NSTP courses if these have not yet been taken.
    • Carry the normal load prescribed by the degree program.

Requirements for Renewal:

    • Letter for renewal addressed to the Dean through Scholarship Committee Chair
    • TCG, without any incomplete and failures
    • Must carry a normal load
    • Certificate of payment (F5)

Amount of Scholarship: USD 500/year

Application Requirements:     

    • Must be of sophomore standing.
    • Regular full time student of the UPCN (without any Incomplete and failing grade) and currently taking required PE/NSTP courses if these have not yet been taken.

Requirements for Renewal:

Amount of Scholarship: Php 8,000/semester

Application Requirements:     

    • Must be of junior standing
    • Have a GWA of 2.25 or better for the preceding semester (without any incomplete or failing grade)
    • Carry the normal load prescribed by the degree program

Requirements for Renewal:

    • Letter for renewal addressed to the Dean through Scholarship Committee Chair
    • TCG, without any incomplete and failures
    • Must carry a normal load
    • Certificate of payment (F5)

Amount of Scholarship: USD 345/semester

Application Requirements:     

    • At least sophomore standing
    • Primary consideration is student needing financial assistance
    • Have a GWA 2.5 or better without any incomplete or failing grade for the preceding semester

Requirements for Renewal:

    • Letter for renewal addressed to the Dean through Scholarship Committee Chair
    • GWA of 2.0 or better
    • TCG, without incomplete, dropped, or failure from previous semester
    • Active participation in class and school activities
    • Certificate of payment (F5)

Amount of Scholarship: USD 345/semester

Application Requirements:     

    • Must be of senior standing (For AY 2020-2021, this scholarship has opened 1 slot each for a junior and a sophomore student)
    • Enrolled at N 109.1 and N 109.2
    • Full-time student (carry the normal load prescribed by degree program)
    • Without incomplete or failure during the previous semester
    • GPA of 2.5 or higher – 40%
    • Needing financial assistance – 50%
    • Extracurricular involvement in UPCN, PGH or Community – 10%

Requirements for Renewal:

    • Letter for renewal addressed to the Dean through Scholarship Committee Chair
    • TCG, without any incomplete and failures
    • Must carry a normal load
    • Certificate of payment (F5)

Amount of Scholarship: USD 750/year

Application Requirements:     

    • Must be of senior standing
    • Enrolled at N 109.1 and N 109.2
    • Full-time student (carry the normal load prescribed by degree program)
    • Without incomplete or failure during the previous semester
    • GPA of 2.5 or higher – 40%
    • Needing financial assistance – 50%
    • Extracurricular involvement in UPCN, PGH or Community – 10%

Amount of Scholarship: Php 10,000/semester

Application Requirements:     

    • Must be a bonafide regular student of the UP College of Nursing
    • Must have  a GWA of 2.5 or better in the preceding semester
    • Must present evidence of financial need based on the family’s income tax return
    • Must write a 1500 word essay on why she/he deserves the scholarship, and how she/he can give back to the College  after graduation
    • Must be willing to carry the name “Evelyn Sulibit Alcontin Scholar” in any academic conference, and be willing to participate in UPNAAI or UPNEC activities when invited.

Application Requirements:     

    • Letter for renewal addressed to the Dean through Scholarship Committee Chair 
    • TCG, without any incomplete and failures 
    • Must carry a normal load 
    • Certificate of payment (F5)

Amount of Scholarship: Php 10,000/semester

Number of slots available: 4

Minimum qualifications for application:

    • The applicant must be a female BS Nursing student and at least of sophomore standing;
    • The applicant must be enrolled in a full time study load at the College of Nursing and may be currently taking the National Service Training Program if this course is not yet taken;
    • The applicant should have a general weighted average of 2.0 or better in the preceding semester and should not have an incomplete or a failing grade
    • The applicant should show evidence of active participation in College academic and extra-curricular activities
    • The applicant should have financial need as supported at least by the income tax return of parents;
    • The applicant must be of good moral character as certified by the Dean or the College Secretary

Terms of the study assistance program:    

    1. The beneficiary should continue to be active in College academic and extracurricular activities;
    2. The beneficiary should carry the name of the assistance program in any academic conference and activities;
    3. The assistance program is renewable every semester until the beneficiary graduates from the BS Nursing program provided that the awardee satisfies the application qualifications stated above.

Application requirements: 

    • Accomplished scholarship application form
    • Application letter addressed to the Dean of the College
    • Request for financial assistance signed by the parent/s of the applicant
    • True copy of grades
    • Certification of good moral character
    • Form 5
    • Income tax return of parents
    • 1500 word essay on why the applicant deserves the study assistance and how she can give back to the College of Nursing after graduation

Amount of Scholarship: US$ 500/semester

Number of slot: 1

Minimum qualifications for application:

    • The applicant must either be a single parent/caretaker or a child of one.
    • The applicant must be enrolled in a full-time study load at the College of Nursing.
    • The applicant should have a general weighted average of 2.5 or better in the preceding semester and should not have an incomplete or a failing grade.
    • The applicant should be of good character and should be actively involved in College activities.
    • The applicant should have financial need as supported at least by the income tax return of the parent, or a proof of exemption from filing an income tax.

Terms of the study assistance program:    

    1. The beneficiary should continue to be active in College activities;
    2. The beneficiary should carry the name of the assistance program in any academic conference and activities;
    3. The assistance program is renewable every semester until the beneficiary graduates from the BS Nursing program provided that the awardee satisfies the application qualifications stated above.
    4. For renewal of scholarship, the beneficiary should show proof that scholarship funds are allocated for subsistence and academic costs.

Application requirements: 

    • Accomplished scholarship application form (Annex A). This form can be downloaded from the OCS Information Portal (https://sites.google.com/up.edu.ph/upcnocs/home?authuser=0)
    • Application letter addressed to the Dean of the College
    • Request for financial assistance signed by the parent/s of the applicant
    • True copy of grades. This can be requested through the OCS Information Portal (https://sites.google.com/up.edu.ph/upcnocs/home?authuser=0))
    • Recommendation letter from an academic adviser, student organization, or employer that would better reflect the student’s overall character
    • Form 5. This is issued after enrollment is finalized. If the Form 5 is not issued, the applicant can request by emailing the Office of the College Secretary at upm-cn-ocs@up.edu.ph.
    • Income tax return of parents or notarized affidavit of non-filing of income tax
    • 1,000-word essay on the applicant’s motivation on the following:
      a.  Applying for the scholarship
      b. Towards pursuing a nursing degree
      c. Professional intentions after completion of degree

II. Graduate Scholarships

About the Scholarship

The Paz Morales-Ferrer Scholarship and Thesis Grant is supported and donated by Feliciano Ferrer, MD in honor of his wife, UPCN alumni, Mrs. Paz Morales-Ferrer (BSN ’59), and approved by UPCN in 2009. The Grant is intended to provide assistance to deserving Master of Arts (Nursing) Students of UP College of Nursing for course work and/or thesis.

Types of Scholarship

Two types of scholarship can be provided under this grant:
Masters Scholarship – this grant will cover tuition, miscellaneous fees, book allowance; student may qualify for thesis grant
Thesis Grant – this grant will cover support for implementation of approved thesis.

Eligibility Criteria:

The following are the minimum qualifications for the Masters Scholarship grant:

    • Must be a bonafide student in the UPCN Master of Arts (Nursing) program, either full-time or part-time student;
      Must have completed at least 12 units of course work with a GWA of 1.75 or better;
    • Must be in good physical condition;
    • Not a recipient of other private or government scholarships such as those from CHED or DOST;
    • Applicant must pass an interview screening
      Must be willing to serve in the Philippines the equivalent of 1 year per every year under scholarship after graduation from the program

The following are the minimum qualifications for the Thesis Grant:

    • Must be a bonafide student in the UPCN Master of Arts (Nursing) program;
    • GWA for coursework is 1.75 or better;
    • Student must have passed the comprehensive examination in his/her respective track in the MA (Nursing) program; and has successfully defended his/her thesis proposal;
    • Applicant must pass an interview screening
    • Not a recipient of other private or government scholarships such as those from CHED or DOST;
    • Must be willing to serve in the Philippines for at least 1 year after graduation from the program
  • Application Requirements:

    Applicants need to submit the following requirements at the Office of the College Secretary on or before the deadline set by the Scholarship Committee. Incomplete submission will not be processed.

      • Accomplished Paz Morales-Ferrer Scholarship Application Form which can be requested through the Office of the College Secretary;
      • Endorsement from one professor in UPCN and one from outside UP System, preferably from the place of work;
      • Medical certificate as to the health status signed by a licensed physician;
      • If applying for Master’s Scholarship, approved program of study signed by the Program Adviser and certified true copy of grades;
      • If applying for Thesis Grant, approval sheet of the thesis proposal signed by the thesis committee; and
      • Signed and notarized return service agreement contract

    Terms of Scholarship:

    1. Master’s Scholarship
      • The student shall execute a return service agreement with the UP College of Nursing.
      • The student is expected to finish the graduate program within three (3) years for full-time students or four (4) years for part-time students. This includes an allowable two (2) semesters in residency.
      • Refund of the scholarship grant with interest shall be required of the student for non-completion of his/her master’s degree or failure to comply with the return service.
      • To maintain the scholarship, the student needs to maintain a GWA of 1.75 or better for every semester enrolled. The student will be subjected to academic evaluation every semester.
    2. Thesis Grant
      • The student shall execute a return service agreement with the UP College of Nursing.
      • The student is expected to defend his/her thesis within one (1) year from the approval of his/her scholarship.
      • A progress report on the thesis project noted by the adviser need to be submitted to the Scholarship Committee.
      • Refund of the thesis grant with interest shall be required of the student for non-completion of his/her master’s degree or failure to comply with the return service within the prescribed period.

    Return Service Obligation:

    The recipient must sign a contract stipulating his/her obligation to work in the Philippines for a period equivalent to the number of years he/she is under the Scholarship. The nature of work should be nursing or nursing-related. Furthermore, once the recipient graduates, he/she will provide service to the UP College of Nursing in any capacity or role depending on the needs of the College.

ANNOUNCEMENT: This scholarship grant is NOT yet available.

Minimum Qualifications for Application

  • The applicant must be a regular student of the University who is of minimum Second Year Standing or has earned at least twelve (12) units of coursework in the Ph.D. Program of the College of Nursing (herein referred to as the “College”) of the University.
  • The applicant must be enrolled in the Ph.D. Program of the College.
  • The applicant must have earned a cumulative minimum General Weighted Average Grade of 1.50 in all courses taken in the Ph.D. Program of the College at the time of application.
  • The applicant must not have been given a final grade lower than 3.00 (“Pass”) or, before the awarding of the Grant or any payment of its benefits, have an existing grade of “INC” or “Incomplete”.
  • The applicant must have complied with and shall comply with the rules of the College on academic performance (e.g. minimum academic load per semester or year, and maximum residence rule).
  • The applicant must be financially needy (i.e. his/her personal annual gross income is not more than PHILIPPINE PESO: FOUR HUNDRED THOUSAND (PHP 400,000) based on his/her income tax returns in the immediately prior year.
  • The applicant must not have been held liable in any disciplinary action by the University or by the College, as certified by the Office of Student Affairs of the University.
  • The applicant must be of good moral character, as certified by the dean of the College, and not have been convicted of a crime.

The submission portal will ask you for the following required documents for upload:

  2. Letter of application (addressed to the Dean) through Prof. Peter James B. Abad, MSc, RN, Chair, UPCN Scholarship Committee stating reasons for wanting to avail of the grant.
  3. Letter of request for financial support from your parent/s or guardian.
  4. For applicants already enrolled in the University, please also submit the following: (1) Printed Form 5 certified by OCS, (2) True Copy of Grades and (3) Certification of Good Moral Character from OCS.   5. Income Tax Return of parents (xerox copy). If the applicant is working, his/her Income Tax Return; If married, attach also ITR of spouse (If income is derived from business, attached Income Statement). If none, upload a certification of non-filing of income tax return.

After submission, the UPCN Scholarship Committee will meet to deliberate on the applications. Approved applicants will be notified through email with instructions on how they can get their stipend and allowance.
