International Collaboration

The college exerts its influence through its international linkages.

Asia Pacific Emergency and Disaster Nursing Network (APEDNN)

In 2007, the Joint Informal Meeting of Health Emergency Partners and Nursing Stakeholders was held in Bangkok, Thailand. This was convened by the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific and South-East Asia Regions, together with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The key outcome of this assembly led to the formation of the Asia Pacific Emergency and Disaster Nursing Network (APEDNN), with the following aims: “to build the capacities of nurses and midwives to fully contribute to coordinated and effective prevention, preparedness and response efforts; improved service delivery, and the building of community resilience during times of emergencies and disasters”.

To date, the APEDNN consists of 240 individual members from over 40 countries in the Asia Pacific Region; the members hold discussions over pressing issues on disaster preparedness, response, rehabilitation, and building the capacities and resilience of individuals and communities across the region.

East Asian Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS)

The East Asian Forum of Nursing Scholars (EAFONS) was established by Professor Ida Martinson together with her colleagues at the School of Nursing, Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 1997. EAFONS aims to “strengthen and promote high quality doctoral education in nursing as well as create an academic environment and socialization for East Asian Scholars through international collaboration and cooperation.” Forums have been held annually since 1997 in the following countries: Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, Philippines, Taiwan, Japan, and Singapore.

Southeast and East Asian Nursing Education and Research Network (SEANERN)

The Southeast and East Asian Nursing Education and Research Network (SEANERN) is a forum that serves as a platform for the exchange of knowledge concerning concepts in pedagogy related to nursing education. This aims to improve and innovate the process of teaching and learning so as to harmonize the nursing curriculum across regions. This also serves to improve collaboration and consequently the quality of education and research among South East and East Asian countries.

SEANERN is composed of members from the 10 ASEAN countries (Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Laos, Myanmar, Cambodia, and Vietnam), and from some countries in the Asian region (China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea). Six SEANERN assemblies have been held in Thailand, Hong Kong, and China since 2015.
