The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) Program has two (2) tracks:
Academic Track
This track is designed to prepare nurses to become educators and researchers in educational settings, including nursing schools, colleges and universities, and other health/research institutions.
Advanced Practice Track
This track is designed to prepare nurses to assume responsibilities of advanced practitioners, wherein specialty is defined by population, setting, or clinical field in a wide variety of healthcare settings. This focus is on improving quality and safety outcomes for individuals, families, and population groups.
Under the 2 tracks, there are seven (7) nursing specialties to choose from:
Women’s Health Nursing
Focuses on the care of women across the reproductive lifespan, including pregnancy, childbirth, menopause, and related health issues
Child Health Nursing
Centers on the care of children and adolescents in various healthcare settings, promoting their physical, emotional, and developmental well-being
Oncology Nursing
Provides specialized care for adult clients and their families, focusing on cancer diagnosis, treatment, emerging trends, and standards of care
Gerontological Nursing
Specializes in the care of older adults, addressing geriatric syndromes and chronic conditions in diverse healthcare environments
Public Health Nursing
Primary Care services to population groups and communities, preparing nursing for more independent and collaborative roles in public health
Nursing Administration
Focuses on delivering primary care services to population groups and communities, preparing nurses for independent and collaborative roles in public health practice.
Mental Health and Psychiatric Nursing
Focuses on principles and practices that promote mental well-being, prevent mental illness, and provide care for individuals across all age groups in various settings.

Minimum Admission Requirements
- Good scholastic record from any recognized institution of higher learning
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing from a recognized institution of higher learning
- At least 1 year of experience as a professional nurse in a hospital, community setting or nursing research unit. A certificate of employment or any document proving the minimum one year experience is required.

Other Documents Needed
- Original copy of the official Transcript of Records
- Two (2) recommendations from former professors, supervisors or employers. The recommendation forms are included in the application packet.
- Receipt of processing fee paid at the UPM Cashier’s Office. The Cashier’s Office is along Padre Faura Street.
- Resume or curriculum vitae.
- Certified true copy of college diploma with the seal of the university and the signature of the registrar in ink.
- Birth certificate (original to be presented for verification).
- Marriage certificate (present original for verification), if applicable
- Four (4) passport size photos
- Photocopy of birth certificate and marriage certificate (for female applicant) (NSO paper).
- Essay on an 8 1/2’ x 11” sheet of paper describing your motivation for pursuing graduate study and your view of self-directed learning as a method of instruction, and a description of your research interest.
Application Processing Fees
There is a processing fee of Php 300.00 for Filipino applicants while a US$30.00 is charged for foreign applicants. Here is the procedure in paying the processing fee
Submission of Application
Once you have completed all the admission requirements and other required documents, you may submit your application to the National Graduate Office for the Health Science on or before the deadline for in-take for each semester. Email submissions are accepted through upm-ngohs-applications@up.edu.ph.
Interview of Applicants
As determined by the UPCN Admissions Committee, an interview may be conducted with applicants. The interview can be done in-person, or through internet-linked applications. The interview is a good opportunity for both parties to be clarified on the application information, clinical experiences, and research interests of the applicant.
Basis for Admissions Decision
Admission to the MS Nursing is highly selective. In deciding for admission, the UPCN Admissions Committee will consider a number of factors that would determine the applicant’s potential success in the program. This includes performance in the baccalaureate degree, previous employment, research involvement, and other personal qualifications. Using an objective review procedure and deliberation based on the submitted requirements, MS Nursing Admissions Committee will recommend selected applicants to the Dean of the College and the Director of the National Graduate Office for the Health Sciences.
Notification of Admission
Successful applicants are notified in writing by the Director of the National Graduate Office for the Health Sciences. They will also receive notification through email. Therefore, please make sure that you double check the contact information you indicate in your application form.
