CHED Center of Excellence
In 1996, the College was designated as a Center of Excellence in Nursing Education by the Commission on Higher Education. A Center of Excellence is a “department within a higher education institution, which continuously demonstrates excellent performance in the areas of instruction, research and publication, extension and linkages and institutional qualifications”. The College has been a Center of Excellence since then.
As a Center of Excellence, the College is committed to provide technical assistance to other nursing education institutions in improving the quality of their curricular design and implementation. Specifically, the College has been assigned to nursing schools within the National Capital Region and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao as its catchment area.
Our Work as CHED Center of Excellence
Embedding and Spreading of the National Nursing Core Competency Standards
Acknowledging the vital role of faculty competence in the achievement of program outcomes, the UP College of Nursing, as a CHED Center of Excellence, developed a training program that is designed to support the faculty competence of embedding and spreading the National Nursing Core Competency Standards (NNCCS) in order to address the challenges in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Program. This is geared towards improving the delivery of the BSN Program and towards producing quality and competent nurses in the country. Strategic partnership with recognized nursing education institutions across the country that are capable to conduct training as also established. A total of 149 participants including deans, faculty administrators, faculty, and nurse preceptors were trained under the program. Various approaches for training, including workshops and assignments, were utilized to involve participants in learning, which resulted in a considerable knowledge gain on NNCCSS among the faculty who participated.
