Memorandum of Understanding and International Linkages

UP College of Nursing continues with its trailblazing activities as it forges several agreements with key international Nursing institutions. These agreements include cooperation and academic exchanges and other collaborative activities. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed with Nagoya University which facilitated 2 rounds of faculty and student exchanges on March 16- 19, 2015, and September 16-27, 2015. A similar agreement with Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing has also been renewed for year 2015 facilitating the exchange of faculty and students since August 2014. MOU with Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing is also currently being arranged for Disaster Nursing and research collaboration.

There are also collaborative projects launched with other institutions on public health nursing disaster nursing such as Mahidol University, Thailand; Japanese Red Cross College of Nursing; studies of elderlies in Asia with Chubu University. A study tour was also held with students from Yokohama City University, Japan in August 28, 2015 for Community Practicum, PGH tour to better understand the Philippine Health Care Delivery System.


Yokohama City University
On August 26-28, 2015, two faculty and five nursing students from Yokohama City University had their educational visit organized by UPCN with Ms. Angela Mabale as coordinator. The educational trip focused on understanding the Philippine health care delivery system and sharing on the education of UP Manila health sciences students through the Community Health Development Program. A tour of PGH and health centers capped their visit which was evaluated by visitors as rich and meaningful.

Nagoya University
On September 16-17, 2015, representatives from Nagoya University, Prof. Iriyama Shigemi and Dr. Yamashina Hiroko, came to UPCN to consider the feasibility of having the practicum of their graduate students at UPCN. The visit included lectures on the Philippine Health Care System by Prof. Erwin Leyva and Prof. Merle Mejico, PGH tour, and exposure trip to Hospicio de San Jose and Kanlungan sa Erma. The visit was concluded with a Round Table Discussion on concerns and possibilities regarding clinical practicum.

Dr. Josefina Tuazon as Visiting Professor
Dr. Josefina Tuazon was invited as Visiting Professor at Soka University, Japan for undergraduate students on November 18– December 2, 2015 and at Chulalongkorn University, Thailand on October and December 2015 for PhD students on research. Partnerships beween these 2 institutions through academic and research exchange is in process.
